Lovely book. Yes there are daily prayers in the BCP, but they are the same prayers everyday. This book changes prayers each day. I like the size...perfect to take with you.
Great little book I use daily. It is a great way to offer your self to God.
This is a great little book for someone who wants prayers throughout the day, but does not have alot of time.I really like this book. I can open it and spend a few minutes here and there throughout the day.
This is the perfect small book that can go anywhere to have for daily prayers. It is just what I was looking for!!
I have used this lovely and meaningful resource myself and have strongly suggested it to my Inquirers' Class for daily prayers. Brief, simple, prayerful daily prayers plus the added prayers in the back from the BCP. All around great prayer book especially for busy adults who want to keep the hours but who don't have a lot of time.
This is a very lovely volume. But I wish the leather was more substantial, or that it was hard bound.
It was perfect
This has been a great aid to prayer when I am on the go, and where doing a full service simply isn't possible.
Admitting my need and obligation to pray four times daily, I have searched for years for "the perfect prayer book"
I wanted it in the format of the service of the hours, but not that long.
I wanted it simple, not needing planning ahead, just "flowing". And I didn't want to have it be expensive and four volumes.
"Hour by Hour" is perfect for me. It has the four elements of the
Daily Office: Morning, Noon and Evening Prayer, and Compline.
As an example, Morning Prayer has an opening sentence, a one
stanza "hymn", a canticle, a psalm, a lesson, a collect, and the grace.
The Lord's Prayer is found in each of the four segments. What is missing is the contrition and repentance of confession; one must infer that in the Lord's Prayer.
This is the Episcopal Office "light", and it suits me just fine; it takes no more than seven minutes, including time
It's four by six and a half inches, about a half inch thick,
printed in type large enough for these old eyes, on off-white
paper, making it easier to read. It's hard-cover faux leather;
the cover is stiff and won't curl.
It's introduced by Dr. Alan Jones, Dean of Grace Cathedral, San
Francisco, and printed by Forward Movement (www.forwardmovement.com) and is priced reasonably at $17.95.
Small enough to tuck inside purse, good quality - the pages are a luxury. The prayers are a wonderful oasis during a hectic or stressful day.
