Privacy & Security
The information that you provide to us, either when you simply visit our site, or order from us online is held in strict confidentiality.* We will not share it with anyone, for profit or for free. You may order from us with confidence that your privacy rights are protected.
Further, your credit card information is held in strictest confidence. When you place an order on our website using your credit card the information is encrypted and sent only to the bank for processing. We do not see your credit card number. For your security we do not have access to your credit card number.
If you phone us and pay by credit card we use hard-wired phones that are secure and we shred the paper on which we write your number. If we must keep your credit card number overnight it is secured under lock and key.
Our website is routinely checked and its security is verified by Security Metrics, a very reputable security information service that is approved by the major credit card companies.
*As of the end of October 2001 there has been a slight change in the above policy. The anti-terrorism bill has been signed into law. It gives the federal government expanded authority to search business records, including the titles of books purchased by our customers. The new law includes a gag order that prevents us from disclosing “to any other person” the fact that we have received an order to produce documents. The Episcopal Bookstore will resist any requests as far as we can. Except for complying with this law, we will continue to keep your information strictly confidential.
Returns & Exchanges
Shopping involves occasionally making mistakes. If you order the wrong product and catch the mistake before we ship it (matter of minutes to hours) we are glad to work with you to correct it and ship the actual item that you want. We are humans and we can make changes to your order for you. During business hours, please contact us by phone at (800) 803-6223 for immediate assistance.
If an item that you purchase is not what you expected or is not right for you, as long as it is in new, saleable condition, you may return it to us for full refund. We can not refund the shipping charges that have already been used.
Book publishers and manufacturers do, rarely, make errors in their products. If you receive a defective product from us please contact us via email or by phone, toll free, at (800) 803-6223. We will work with you to determine the best strategy that will meet your approval.
Who Decides What Books Are Offered?
Usually the “big guys” determine which items are displayed and where to display them by the amount of money they receive from the publishers and producers of the merchandise. We do it differently.
Nancy is our buyer. She chooses the titles and merchandise that we offer, not by how much the producer is willing to pay us to display it, but based on the quality of the item and whether it fits the theology of this ministry-which-is-the-store. John displays the items on our website, with suggestions from Nancy, by our judgment of what is good and appropriate at the time. As avid readers, John & Nancy have also featured a section of suggested "picks" to consider, "John & Nancy's Picks" are featured right on our homepage for easy access.
Many of our customers trust and rely on Nancy’s buying decisions and gain confidence in the merchandise that they are considering by knowing the motivations behind our decisions. We are always open to suggestions, if you know of a quality book that we are missing; please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Thank you for considering this ministry-which-is-the-store as you shop,
Nancy & John Marshall, Co-Owners
